I received my very first U.S. Passport in the mail yesterday! For the next ten years I can go wherever I want in the entire world. I never realized the shackles were upon me until I felt this freedom. I can't wait for the Alaskan cruise:-)
You are under the wrong impression, my friend. Starting June 9, or some random date like that, if I want to get off the port in Victoria, Canada, I darned well better have a passport book or a passport card.
Actually, in the cruise information, it stated that anyone traveling from one U.S. port to another is technically required to have a passport--even if they don't stop in Canada. Maybe it was if you're traveling through international waters, I don't remember.
Jon, According to the US passport site, I need a passport, but I quoteth directly from the info from the travel agency, "For cruise itineraries that begin and end in the same US port and include ports in the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean and/or Mexico but that visit no other foreign ports: Passports are not currently required for this sailing. To board without a passport, adult passengers need a valid government-issued photo identification AND a certified or original (state-issued) copy of their birth certificate. Photocopies of required documentation are not acceptable."
